good question !

well Reem i guess that we didn't choose to Associate all of the emotions with the heart .. actually the Heart did !!

when you love someone , see him or her passing near you , your heart suddenly starts to beat like it never done before !

when you leave someone that you really do care about him ... a pain in your heart ! thats what u feel !!

i guess that our feeling controls the way we live just like the HEART control the blood in our bodies ..

when you say to someone : u r my heart .... then you actually mean that you cant live without him or her ....caz simply , can you live without your heart ?!

thats wt i think ...

i know that all the emotions come from or in a relate with the liver... but we relate it to the heart coz its the only thing that hurts you when you feel sad or sorrow and maybe bcoz it stops when someone dies from happiness or sadness...

brain is controlling us...every function every emotion...its the brain that percieves things happy or sad releases hormones activates other systems and different parts of the body respond...when we r too emotional our sympathetic nervous system activates and heart beats faster and there are other reactions too.....vast subject but neither liver nor heart but the brain is controlling us.

The brain controls all the emotions but it works very silently, not making its presence very obvious. The heart on the other hand is a palpable beating structure, and any increase or decrease in its frequency is instantly felt. Thats why the early people thought it was the heart that controls emotions... it is that early Anatomical hyothesis that became incorporated into poetry and survived.

I dont know whether liver controls the emotions ..i think its the brain which does that ....but
In my mother tongue " malayalam" the word 'karal' is used to refer to one's beloved ....when i heard the word in the movie songs I thought that it must be refering to the Heart ....but I was wrong.....!!! my mother told me that "karal" actually meant Liver !!!!
imagine calling your beloved " liver".....
hehe !

more about Liver....

If you were asked what the most important organ in the body is, what would be the first thing to come to mind? Would you think about your heart? What about your brain? How about the lungs? All of these are very important and essential for survival. However, a strong case could be made that the liver is the most important organ in the body.

If one needed a new heart, man now possesses the knowledge and technology to perform heart transplants—whether a donated heart or prosthetic heart. For the brain to endanger one’s life, it would need to suffer significant organic damage. People can live with one lung, one kidney, and no appendix. However, if one’s liver shuts down, he would only live a day or two. There are no prosthetic livers. This organ is too complex for man to copy. Let’s find out why this organ is so important—an everyday miracle at work.

I'd say that people prefer to choose the heart as the emotion master, because they can feel it working every time tense emotions come to surface, as when you see your love or you were about to be hit by a car! In these cases you can't pronounce the work of ur brain, liver, "appendix" or anything.

As for saying that it's the most important organ or the liver or whatever, I guess this is kinda arbitrary..any organ that you can't do without is important...For your surpise, I've heard several doctors describing the skin as the most important organ, and by thinking about it you'll find it making much sense.
